Chartable SmartLinks: Where to Send Our Listeners?
Examples
Series-level Chartable SmartLink
With app badges
https://link.chtbl.com/demo?sid=medium.campaign
These links resolve to an interstitial landing page with a "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style app picker. The apps displayed are device-sensitive (e.g. Android devices won't see Apple Podcasts).
When a Source ID value (sid) is used, resulting downloads can be attributed to specific marketing channels and campaigns.
Series-level Chartable SmartLink
With automatic redirects to default podcast apps
https://link.chtbl.com/grttwak_demo?sid=medium.campaign
These links automatically redirect users to platform-appropriate apps. For instance, this link redirects:
iOS users to Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids on Apple Podcasts
Android users to Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids on Google Podcasts
All other devices to the Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids website
When a Source ID value (sid) is used, resulting downloads can be attributed to specific marketing channels and campaigns.
NB: automatically redirecting all iOS users to Apple Podcasts is a relatively safe option, but may not be ideal for iOS users of third-party podcast apps like Spotify, Pocket Casts, Overcast, etc.
Episode-level Chartable SmartLink
With app badges
https://link.chtbl.com/v7IHCTia?sid=medium.campaign
These links resolve to an interstitial landing page with a "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style app picker. The apps displayed are device-sensitive (e.g. Android devices won't see Apple Podcasts).
When a Source ID value (sid) is used, resulting downloads can be attributed to specific marketing channels and campaigns.
Be careful and delberate when using this style of SmartLink. The copy and artwork on the interstitial landing page will reflect series-level metadata, not episode-level metadata. Additionally, when a potential listener taps an app icon, they may end up on an episode-specific page within their podcast app that does not include a Follow/Subscribe button. In an attempt to send listeners directly to a specific episode, you may be sacrificing potential new followers/subscribers.
Pacific Content only recommends episode-level Chartable SmartLinks when driving traffic to an episode that's deep in a series' back catalog.
Series-level Chartable SmartLink
With 100% redirect to podcast landing page
https://link.chtbl.com/grttwak_website_demo?sid=medium.campaign
This link redirects all traffic to a podcast website or landing page.
Why use a SmartLink when you could link directly to the site instead? When a Source ID value (sid) is used, resulting downloads can be attributed to specific marketing channels and campaigns, with no further tagging required.
Series-level deep link to a specific podcast app
https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id890900960
or
https://open.spotify.com/show/0tKu6eD6VDfxboZoWd0j6H
Sometimes, when co-marketing a series in partnership with a specific podcast app, it makes sense to link directly to your show on their app.
